Just an idea but we think about limiting size of TFs in order to be more historical so maybe we may also think about limiting the size of air raids.

From historical point of view, in 1942, the US did not have the procedure to organize large air raids (i mean from carrier born units) with units coming from several carriers; in the case of the Japanese, it was different since they were used to work with teams of 2 fleet carriers, possibly 4 within Kido Butai. Cyril said it was difficult to manage non mixing air units from two different carriers belonging to the same TF (maybe later, would be very nice), but alternatively it should be easy to manage the size of the raids.
Besides historical aspects, it would help TFs to survive since reducing the size of TFs also reduces their AA capabilities.

Logically, as a consequence, we may also think to limit the size of CAPs... maybe reflecting the capability of air staff to manage such a number of planes aloft. I think that, at Midway, the Japanese "Great CAP" had 43 Zeros... corresponding to 11 game's air units aloft. It happens that i have more than that over my own TFs.

Actually reducing size of TFs, air raids ans CAPs may give greater capability of survive to ships/air units and allow to play on historical timeline with reduced risks of getting each side down to zero at the end of the first or second day.

What do you think about it?
Of course, it would need extensive testing regarding the impact on the game.

I will try to find out some figures about the size of air strikes in 1942.
