I've played E Solomons perhaps 10 times now, and have repeatedly seen USN VT slaughtered when attacking surface forces. I know that VT were decimated by CAP at Midway, but this is different. The TBF are attacking BB and CA and there is NO Japanese CAP! The VT are being wiped out by FLAK. This is completely ahistorical and must be fixed.

Hello Ivanmoe,

The bombers would also have to fly at low altitude in a straight line before launching, which sounds like it would make them more vulnerable to ship AA fire
Do others people think the current combat system is punishing too heavily torpedo bombers ?

Not to the IJN ones. Very Happy

Yes, Torpedo bomber need to fly very low (~10m above the sea surface), very slow (about 110 km/h iirc from 1942 Pacific Air War), straight and level, if not, the torpedo will not start running once it is dropped into the water. Making torpedo bomber perfect sitting ducks (no speed and room to maneuver) to AA and CAP.

To reiterate, there is no CAP in these attacks on IJN surface elements of CA and BB. Further, AA on those same ships was far less potent than in later years. The fact that 75% of TBF are going down under these circumstances does not square with historical outcomes. Remember, it was TBF that sunk a far better armed Yamato in 1945.

Remember that random plays a large role in combat
You have 75% losses each time

At the end, the torpedoes have greatly improved and the bombers could fly at higher speed when releasing it

If it can help you, the next version will introduce damage planes and all Gruman aircraft have good capability to sustain damage so in the end, you will loose less compared to Japanese counterparts
