The idea is that an air plane may detect enemy ships but these ships have also a little chance of seeing it
It had occurred in the history and often the spotted ships had turned back in a fear of an air strike

What could be done in the game
- warning to the player if an enemy search plane is spotted (at least the first time)

Then up to the player to react to this
(and the AI as well)

I am not sure but normally in game, between being spotted enemy ship to launch strike and to reach the target, it normally takes more than 3 hours, there is very little chance to evade the strike, given the endurance of Japanese aircraft, unless there are other way to evade, e.g nightfall, weather. it may still help as it did historically

See for instance the sinking of the DD Meredith
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Meredith_(DD-434)

After seeing an enemy redo plane, all ships except this DD aborted their run to Guadalcanal and sailed back to Santo
The Meredith was subsequently attacked by carrier aircraft and doomed
